Mobility Stretch Class FAQs

  • Most stretch classes are passive stretching. You might get more flexible. Mobility is strength at range of motion, which means you will get stronger through your joints in all the movements you make, your joints will feel more comfortable, and you’ll prevent injuries.

  • Oh, yes! We start class with gentle strengthening exercises and then spend the rest of class with gentle stretching, mobilization and slow movement. When you sit, your body shortens and weakens in some places, lengthens and weakens in others. These classes strengthen and balance out your movement patterns, decrease stress, and help your whole body feel more comfortable and open.

  • Sure! This is a mat based class, so you want to be able to get up and down from the floor. But I also am able to make many modifications to accommodate pregnancy, injuries, recovery, and orthopedic issues. Please let me know how I can support you best.

  • I developed this class at the Yoga Center of Columbia over a decade ago in my mid-forties to address my own lower back and hips osteoarthritis. My youngest students in this class have been in their late twenties and my oldest students have been in their mid-eighties.

  • Equipment Needed

    In-Studio:

    • We have mats and props available for use

    • Option to bring your own equipment

    Online Classes:

    • Mat

    • Yoga strap

    • Blanket

    • Some wall space (about your own arms’ width

    • Chair (for certain classes)
