RETREAT FAQs

  • No. While all the highlights and classes are part of the all-inclusive rates, all activities are still optional. Some people come for the safari or culture, and opt out of classes. We have an itinerary we follow that is paced with time for relaxation.

  • This is small group, luxury travel. In Kenya we have 4×4 jeeps, in other countries we have vans. We will not ever expand big enough to use a bus. The maximum number of guests range from 12-16, depending upon the trip.

  • See activity level and more in charts below.

  • Each individual retreat has its own detailed listing of inclusions/exclusions.

  • Sure! Every place we go can accommodate the common dietary restrictions. I will send out a questionnaire before our trip where I will ask these sorts of questions.

  • There are always alternatives and options. We make sure you learn about and have opportunities to try the local cuisine. There will also be options for familiar dishes.

  • Absolutely! My retreats welcome all and destinations are carefully chosen for safety. If you are concerned about LGBTQ travel to our destination, please ask.

Unless otherwise noted, the retreats are not women only. Each retreat and location has its own specialty interest options from a traditional dagger making collective to scuba diving or fly fishing. My husband comes on most retreats.

MOVEMENT AND WELLNESS LEVELS:

Gentle Foundation: Daily mobility and stretch classes designed for all fitness levels, with optional enhanced sessions for those wanting more. Perfect for those who enjoy gentle movement and self-care practices. Classes include getting up and down off the floor. There is walking, and there are stairs. Note: all classes are optional. Most retreats have optional add-on activities that range from snorkeling and scuba diving to camel rides.

Active Exploration: Gentle Foundation plus extended cultural walking tours, market exploration, and opportunities for 10,000+ daily steps. Comfortable walking shoes essential - you'll be on your feet exploring, and there are likely cobblestones and stairs!

Adventure Ready: Active Exploration plus 1-2 special experiences on uneven terrain - desert dunes, mountain village walks. Still easy enough for simple tennis shoes. No hiking boots needed. For those ready to add a gentle adventure element with full support.

Expedition Style: Full-day treks, longer hikes, and more rugged terrain.

CULTURAL IMMERSION DEPTH:

Wellness Focus: Personal renewal and relaxation with light local experiences and healthy farm to table living. Emphasis on restoration, reflection, mind-body practices, and gentle cultural touches in a beautiful setting. Similar to a yoga holiday.

Cultural Discovery: Guided museums, historical tours, and traditional experiences. Learn the stories and heritage through expert local, friendly guidance. Experiences may include family home meals, listening to traditional music, cooking class, and more.

Living Culture: Cultural Discovery plus hands-on workshops with artisans, cooking classes, family visits, and traditional music/dance parties. Experience daily life and traditions firsthand with extensive time with people of the cultures.

Transformational Journey: Cultural Discovery or Living Culture plus mindful personal growth elements and cross-cultural understanding. Journey inward while exploring outward.

RETREAT STYLE:

  • Cultural Odyssey: Multi-location, travel-focused with cultural immersion

  • Cultural Wellness Sanctuary: Single or dual location, balance of activities and relaxation

  • Mind-Body Retreat: Structured personal development with cultural or paradise context

CHOICE LEVEL:

Guided Choice: All-inclusive highlight experiences such as museum visits, hikes, classes etc. are all optional participation. Plenty of add-on opportunities during “relaxation” time.
